The Frostburg Center for Literary Arts and Frostburg State University’s Women’s Studies Program will co-host the International Women’s Day Feminist Poetry Slam on March 8 at Dante’s Bar, 16 W Main Street, Frostburg. Registration begins at 7:00 PM and the slam will start at 7:30 PM. There is no cover. This event is open to poets 16 years of age and older. The winner of this event will receive a cash prize of $100.
All are invited to attend this competitive reading and are encouraged to bring three original pieces of poetry that explore feminist themes, such as the expression of gender and marginalized experiences through language. The Program Coordinator for the Women’s Studies Program, Dr. Jennifer Earles, comments, “Indeed, feminist poetry is about expressing the love, sadness, anger, fear, and joy of living our lives in the margins and acknowledging our journeys toward social justice.”
Participants will be judged on performance, connection to the theme, and quality of work. Come to Dante’s to hear Feminist Voices.
