Funding for Growing Program Leads to New Employment Opportunity

On February 10, 2016 the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development awarded $16,000 in Nonprofit Assistance Funds to FrostburgFirst for the 2016 fiscal year. FrostburgFirst is one of only 28 communities designated as a Maryland Main Street Program, an organization focused on revitalizing traditional, small-town Main Streets and communities in Maryland. Over $5 million in grant requests were received, however, only $900,000 were awarded to communities.

Jessica Palumbo, FrostburgFirst’s Main Street Manager, applied for this opportunity in October 2015. Funds will be used to create a new employment position for a part-time administrative assistant to assist in building a committee structure, fundraising and membership drives, and coordinating projects within the program. Very few grants are available for operating costs making this award a competitive distinction.

The Operating Assistance Grant program through the Maryland DHCD consists of three categories: The Main Street Improvement Program, Nonprofit Assistance Fund, and Technical Assistant Grant. These funds are effective for local governments, development corporations, and nonprofits to obtain or provide services which will assist community development.

FrostburgFirst is now accepting applications for the part-time assistant position until Friday, March 25; for more information, please visit: Interested candidates, please e-mail a cover letter, resume, and references to [email protected].
