The Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University presents singer-songwriter Crys Matthews on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall, Lane University Center. The event, presented as part of the On The EDGE series, features informal table seating, comfortable couch and armchair seating, a free appetizer and a cash bar.
Crys Matthews has a powerful message with a voice to match. Her eclectic blend of Americana, folk, jazz, blues, bluegrass and funk is steeped in traditional melodies and punctuated by honest, original lyrics. Matthews finds inspiration in her surroundings – from driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains to the compelling and heart-breaking love story of Richard and Mildred Loving. Thoughtful, realistic and emotional, her songs remind us why music soothes the soul.
The music publication the Bluegrass Situation stated, “While each and every day, on each and every media platform, we’re reminded of the division, alienation, marginalization, and divisiveness rampant in our country (and our world), we’re not often enough met with people like Matthews who exist as reminders of what beauty can occur when we bridge those divides.”.
