The fifth class of the Weedy Wednesday Materia Medica series is all about the humble Dandelion. We’ll sample Dandelion leaf infusion and compare raw and roasted Dandelion root teas. We’ll discuss the many medicinal uses and food value of this ubiquitous plant, and why you might not want to be so quick to pull it from your gardens and lawns. Pre-registration is required. $25 fee includes a handout with recipes and herbal tea and treats to enjoy in class. Everyone will get a sample of Roasted Roots Herbal Tea blend to take home.
Materia Medica is a term that refers to the materials used in medicine (plants!) as well as a notebook or herbarium with pressed plant samples or botanical drawings and information on the individual plants. Studying plants one plant at a time in a thorough manner is a wonderful way to learn about herbs without getting overwhelmed. I’ll share some of my early Materia Medica pages that I continually add to as studying herbs is an ongoing lifelong process.
