Event Details

The Allegany Arts Council will kick off a joint exhibition featuring the work of local photographer Penny Knobel-Besa and puppet-maker Gerald Snelson with a public opening on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm in the Arts Council’s Saville Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.

Penny Knobel-Besa’s show, Metamorphosis, features work which departs from her previous style of photography showing photographs uncropped and exactly as taken. In her latest series, she experiments with digital manipulation, using techniques such as blur and reflection to make paintings with her camera. A multi-talented fine arts photographer, playwright, and theatre director, Knobel-Besa was previously named Maryland Photographer of the Year. She will be available on Saturday, November 9, from 5:30 pm-6:00 pm, for a gallery walk and talk to explore her latest work and how it has changed from her earlier photography.

Dr. Gerald Snelson’s, The Art and Craft of the Puppet, combines the mechanical with the magical in a display of puppets Snelson has designed and created. His love of puppets has led to a lifelong devotion to building and construction of life-like, operational, and visually stunning puppets, which he shares with students both in design and performance in his role as a professor at Frostburg State University. Snelson will host a demonstration, Art & Craft of the Puppet, on Saturday, November 16, from 2:00 pm-3:30 pm where he will go in-depth into both the technical and the artistic aspects of his creations.

Metamorphosis and The Art and Craft of the Puppet will remain on display at the Allegany Arts Council through November 30
