Make yourself at home!

There are tons of ways for Frostburg State students to enjoy Main Street, even on a limited budget. Check out our New Bobcats itinerary, which includes several can’t-miss spots in downtown Frostburg to help acquaint you with our city. With this list of exciting stores and restaurants, you are sure to find yourself going from a newbie to a regular in no time.

1. Check out local art

Frostburg’s downtown district has lots of public art for your viewing pleasure. Highlights include the mural on Broadway, the sculpture garden on the switchback leading to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail, and the newly completed mural at the intersection of Main Street and Broadway. There are also three robots hidden around town. Can you find them all?

2. Dine like royalty

The Princess Restaurant offers a classic menu of traditional diner foods, like burgers, fries, and milkshakes. Did you know that President Harry S. Truman dined at The Princess in 1953? Find the infamous Truman Booth and dine in presidential style! (12 W. Main Street)

3. Satisfy your sweet tooth

Stop by Lorenzo’s Bakery for delicious homemade pastries, breads, cakes, and even dog treats! Rumor has it that the donuts are freshest after midnight… (10 S. Broadway)

4. Take a coffee break

Get your caffeine fix at Mountain City Coffeehouse & Creamery or at newly-opened Clatter. Enjoy al fresco dining at Mountain City, where they feature a rotating weekly menu of soups and vegetarian creations, or try locally roasted Basecamp Coffee at Clatter. Clatter’s cozy atmosphere is also the perfect venue for trivia nights, acoustic musical performances by local talents, and pottery workshops. (60 E. Main Street, 15 S. Broadway)

5. Treat yo' self!

Find dorm room décor at Funky Repurps & More, build your record collection at Yellow K Record Store, load up on video games for your down time at Cartridges Galore, and find the latest fashions at Crestmont LTD, Western Maryland’s only Vera Bradley retailer. (26 W. Main Street, 19 S. Broadway, 53 E. Main Street, 7 W. Main Street)

6. Get lost in a book

No trip to Main Street is complete without a stop at Main Street Books. Find books you need for class, unique school supplies, and adorable cards and postcards to write home to your parents. (2 E. Main Street)

7. Take a breather

Relax after class at Absalom’s Emporium and Hookah Lounge. Absalom’s carries over 40 flavors of hookah tobacco, and the lounge features a large-scale artistic interpretation of Alice in Wonderland by local muralist Parris Ashley. (95 E. Main Street)

8. Watch the game

Cheer for your favorite teams at The Draft Sports Bar & Grille or at Zen-Shi (even if you aren’t 21 yet, both offer great happy hour specials on food). The Draft features over 30 TVs throughout the restaurant, so you’re always guaranteed a stellar view. Zen-Shi’s covered deck brings the tailgate party to Frostburg and is complete with picnic tables, cornhole boards, and an outdoor television. (295 E. Main Street, 104 E. Main Street)

9. Grab the popcorn

The Palace Theatre is a great low-cost entertainment option. At only $5 per movie ticket, you can enjoy monthly screenings of independent and classic films, musicals, documentaries, and more. For an even better bargain, consider a $25 annual film club membership, which will grant you entry to a free movie every month. (31 E. Main Street)

10. Soak up the great outdoors

The outdoors are always free, and you’d be doing yourself a huge injustice if you didn’t take advantage of Frostburg’s mountainous scenery! A local favorite scenic overlook is Dan’s Rock, located just outside Frostburg city limits, which boasts breathtaking views of three states. Prefer hiking? The Savage River State Forest is about 10 minutes west of Frostburg with lots of trails to choose from. Have a bike? The Great Allegheny Passage Bike Trail is located a short walk from Main Street. Want to explore a little further? Head to Swallow Falls in Garrett County to take a dip in the Youghiogheny River.
