Western Maryland Scenic Railroad
Frostburg is the destination town for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad provides an experience on the rails for passengers of all ages. The railroad runs year-round with seasonal excursions, dinner trains, Hands on the Throttle experiences, The Polar Express Train Ride and more! The railroad has recently restored former Chesapeake & Ohio Steam engine no. 1309 and operates it regularly throughout the Summer and Fall months on The Frostburg Flyer. The 1309 is the largest articulated steam locomotive in regular operation in the United States.
The Destination:
Passengers on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad leave the Western Maryland Railway Station in Cumberland, MD to embark on the uphill journey to the Frostburg Depot. Riders will enjoy a layover in Frostburg, MD where they are can explore the small businesses and restaurants of the mountain town of Frostburg. Guests are also invited to explore the historic Frostburg Depot and the Thrasher Carriage Museum.
