Hilarious Misunderstandings and Joyful Mayhem
in SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER

The Department of Theatre and Dance will present Oliver Goldsmith’s delightfully witty comedy, SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER on April 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22 at 7:30 pm with a matinee on April 15 at 2:00 pm in FSU’S Performing Arts Center.

When city slickers Marlow and Hastings travel to the countryside in search of love, they find themselves in a tangle of pranks and mistaken identities, including the belief that their prominent host (and Marlow’s possible future father-in-law), Mr. Hardcastle, is a mere innkeeper.

To top it all, Marlow has a serious problem. In the company of barmaids and servant girls, he is strikingly self-assured, but in the presence of gentlewomen, including Kate Hardcastle, he is a shy and stammering schoolboy.

The Hardcastle household becomes uproariously unhinged as Kate takes matters into her own hands, Hastings pursues his love, and an outlandish cast of other characters burst their way into the escalating humor.

Directed by Mairzy Yost-Rushton, SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER is a satirical romp that promises as much laughter today as it did to audiences over 200 years ago.
