Frostburg is a beautiful, tight-knit community, and in troubling times like these it’s increasingly important for rural communities like ours to stick together! Leaders in our community, like those who lead community programs or own our favorite local businesses have demonstrated their commitment to help our city by donating their craft, funds, and their time and effort! These people are Frostburg’s own ‘Hometown Heroes’ and we just want to take a moment to extend our appreciation and support for their efforts! Do you know of a Hometown Hero we missed? Email us at [email protected] and let us know!
The COVID-19 crisis has raised awareness for those who are finding it challenging to support themselves in unexpected (and certainly unprecedented) times. The willing and able in our community quickly noticed the need and immediately began to search for ways that they could and can continue to help!
Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant, a staple on Bowery Street in downtown Frostburg, has offered special family-sized meals at a reasonable price. Toasted Goat Winery has done the same, offering delicious cater-out-style meals for families, and, in partnership with Doug Kramer of Edward Jones, has donated 90 lunches to UPMC Western Maryland.
Mountain City Coffeehouse and Creamery donated lunches for essential workers as well! Mario’s Italian Eatery, in partnership with Stevens Electrical and Dale’s Communications, donated meals to UPMC Western Maryland, City Police, and FSU Police. Fatboy’s Pizza Shop has been offering incredibly low prices for their pizzas and have also been allowing those in need to “pay as you go” or paying only what you have. FrostburgFirst artist member Mindy Wilkinson with She’s So Pretty has been making masks in all sizes, taking requests from all of those in need!
You can help these leaders in their efforts to assist others by simply continuing to support them! Order carry-out or delivery from your favorite local restaurant, purchase a gift card, or search a business’ inventory for products that you love and they might just ship it to you! If you keep shopping small and supporting local businesses then you too can be a Frostburg “Hometown Hero”!
